30 days of finding feminine: Day 21

                              Day 21

Grey slashed sleeve sweatshirt

Tailored black leather shorts

Black stilettos
The sun is out today.. and so are my legs.

Let’s hope that the months of being hidden (actually, that should be years... St. Louis only gets her pins out on hols where no one knows me…) doesn’t shock them into incapacity like a deer in headlights.

Came over all Braveheart in the safety confines of my bedroom.
The conversation in my head went like this:
‘Come on Nick, the suns out. Let’s make that change, just like Michael Jackson said, and your legs ain’t actually looking that bad in the mirror’…
‘Ooh no, let’s just do a maxi dress instead. I’ll compromise and make it the one with the high splits up the sides and the buttons down the front??..’
‘Bollocks. Get them shorts on…’
My life coach may define this as me ‘Taming my Gremlin’(excellent book by the way…)
I’m inclined to define it as mild schizophrenia.

Needless to say, the short distance between my flat and the bus stop has mostly been spent pulling down my shorts, putting my hands in my pockets to gain an extra couple of millimeters length, checking behind me to see if anyone is laughing uncontrollably at my thighs and wishing to God I’d worn something else.

By the time I’ve got off the bus, the coat I have oh so nonchalantly slung over my bag is well and truly on my back in a vain effort to cover some skin.

…However, now I just look like a flasher.

Whose idea was this anyway??

I’m betrayed by the weather (things are not going well) by the time I have to leave the office for an off site meeting in the morning, the sun’s gone in and I look like the girl who was a tad too eager…

Then my shoes betray me.

I’ve grown close to my black stilettos, I feel like they understand my quest and will become something of a lifelong friend. However, they refuse to stay on my feet and decide to they want to become mules.

It’s probably something to do with my feet shrinking due to the fact that I’m freezing, but I’m looking like a little girl playing dress up in her mums heels as I walk down the road.

Oh shoe God, why hast thou forsaken me??!!

Put my short shorts to the test after work as I head out for some quality ‘wine time’ with Katy P from work at Soho House.
Get some attention , but no declarations…and I’m still freezin’!!

I do however draw a bit of a crowd when I'm taking the picures for this post. 2 guys run over from the pub accross the road.
'Alright darlin'. We've all been watching ya. Can we 'ave a picture?'
They make me laugh so much with their cheekiness, of course I oblige...Like I said before. If a guy makes me laugh, I'm likely to have his children...

Here's to ya, you cheeky chappies!x

30 days of finding feminine: Day 20

Day 20

Black leather trim trousers

Black sleeveless t shirt
Black stilettos
White sleeveless jacket

Trying out a low sideswept ponytail today.

It looks less severe than my usual high one but I can’t help but wonder if I’m too old for it, though my sober monochrome look could balance it out.

Not as much girlie today, but more no nonsense…All business come to think of it. And perhaps there is a touch of the city worker about me....

Trousers - Topshop
Jacket - Alexander McQueen
Shoes - Miss Selfridge

Don’t feel like a go getter though…..Think it’s got up and gone...

30 days of finding feminine: Day 19

Day 19

Black circle skirt

Cream blouse with black neck tie

Black stilettos

Black bow headband

Tempted though I was by the obligatory driving rain of the British summer to wear a pair of jeans this morning, in honour of the repair of my Sankyo CM300 8mm camera, I decide to go for a retro 50's 'Sandra Dee' look…
Shirt - Topshop
Skirt - Miss Selfridge

OK, ok. So they only made that camera for 7 years during the 70s, but the purists will just have to close their ears!

Really going for it today and even dig out an old headband to complete the look (it’s got a bow on it, but is less Lady Gaga, more Lady Di….)

This one’s quite extreme for me, but I’m glad because I have a meeting with the PR girls and Jackie Dixon about our Christmas Look Book shoot this morning, and with all the fashion know how in the room, I’m wondering what the reaction will be….

Jackie is speechless when she sees me – even more so than the last time.

‘I didn’t actually think I could be more shocked!’ she manages to whisper eventually…’This is a TV programme in the making…’

Lisa, our PR manager tells me 'You look soooo swweeeet Nicks, I can't believe it... You look like Alice in Wonderland' ....

...and then bursts out laughing.
Not quite sure if she's laughing with me or at me.
Six... - count 'em - Six people tell me I look like Alice in Wonderland today...

Yes, I do feel like I've disappeared down a rabbit hole...and right now, I'd give my right arm for the chance to rock a top hat and a snazzy waistcoat.
...Someone find me the Mad Hatter....And noone say 'look in the mirror'!

30 days of finding feminine: Day 18

Day 18

Picture scene vintage dress
White stilettos

Jesus Christ on a bike!...

I am not happy.

If I was trying to find feminine, it certainly found me.
Anyone who knows me at all knows how left field this is for me.
I feel like I’ve gone for Grace Kelly and ended up Queen Mum….It’s as close to Kate Middleton as I’m gonna get…and it’s too close for comfort.

                                                                                          Dress - Vintage

Also noticed I’ve started to walk with a slight sway. Like I’m in a Doris Day film, about to swing around a lamppost and break into song.

                                           Shoes - Office

Makes me smile a lot though…Maybe it’s the flowers in the print.
Now there’s a thought. Bringing out my femininity, makes for a happier me.

Glasses - Monki

Pah!
I’d be happier in studded cuff and a pair of pink Converse thank you very much!!

30 days of finding feminine: Day 17

Day 17

Black skater skirt
Denim shirt with exposed shoulder
Ruffled mac
Stiletto boot

Been on a voyage of discovery over this last week….Through my wardrobe.
Perhaps it was the re-imagining of my outfits that spurred it on.
The result has been a 3 fold realisation:

1.    I have some quite frankly amazing pieces in my wardrobe.

 Denim shirt - Vintage

2.    I have great fashion taste that needs to be shared with the world
      – That’s right, also found some confidence in there as well!!!
Jacket and skirt - Miss Selfridge
And...

3.    I have bottom lip that is well and truly protruded because I can’t wear any of these treasures for another 13 days…..

Ahhhhhhh!!!!

Boots - Miss Selfridge

As a protest, I stay in all weekend.

Who am I kidding? I stay in every weekend.

30 days of finding feminine: Day 16

Day 16

Floral slip dress
Flowers in hair
Pencil heels

Got a touch of the 'Fellinis' today…Come over all Dolce Vita.

Dress - Betsey Johnson

Although truth is, I’d rather have given this outfit a bit of Courtney Love and layered it with a rock T, some DMs and an oversize denim jacket

Oh well...

I’ll just have to picture myself sashaying along some quaint Italian cobbled streets, passing men on bicycles and old women in lace...

…Forgetting the fact that cobbles in pencil heels are bloody murder…
Shoes - Donna Karan
